Summer is finally here! I don’t know about you guys, but this year was awkwardly long and short at the same time. Anyway, after seeing a lot of this on social media, I decided that maybe I should make a summer bucket list for myself. Plus, we all know that feeling in middle of the summer when there’s nothing to do and you almost wish that school was back in so I thought that this might help. So here it is: my summer bucket list for 2017! Feel free to share your summer bucket list ideas with me on Twitter or Instagram using #newsthatsparkles ! Also, be sure to check back often because I will be posting every Wednesday, Saturday, and Monday this summer!
With spring approaching, I decided to put together 6 cute spring outfits for you guys. All of the items shown below are both very affordable and can be ordered online as well as bought at stores. Tweet your spring fashion tips and ideas to @Sparklenews_ with the #NewsthatSparkles to be featured and don’t forget to follow all my social medias which will be listed down below. Outfit 1:
This is a cute and casual look that can be worn to school, work, or out shopping. The shirt is a tee with a gray top and a white and black floral bottom and is currently on sale for $24.99 at Belk. The shoes are adorable white Keds sold at DSW for $29.95 and the black jeans are on sale at Forever 21 for $10.
This outfit is not only very girly, but super cute too. It has an adorable cactus t-shirt from Target that is only $12.99 along with a pink button up skirt from Belk which is on sale for $24.01 at the moment. To finish it off, there is a pair of brown sandals which are $19.99 at Payless. Together, all of these elements make a bright and spring-themed outfit that would be great for school and other casual places.
Of the outfits I put together above, this one has got to be one of my favorites. It features a yellow, floral Abercrombie dress that sells for $58. I particularly love the dress because it has cute, flowy sleeves with a cold shoulder and is a bright yellow color which is great for spring. I added a layered charm necklace ($15.95-American Eagle) to make the outfit a bit more classy and a pair of cute brown booties which are $49.99 at Payless. This is a step up from the typical casual outfit, but can be worn in almost any situation.
I love this outfit because I think that it looks super comfy and would be perfect to wear for finals and midterms weeks or for traveling. To start, I chose a baby blue t-shirt from American Eagle which is currently on sale for $14.95. To go with it, I chose out a pair of cute, soft, camo shorts (On sale for $15 at Hollister). These two make for a great lounge outfit being that they would be very comfy. That being said, I decided to add a few accessories to make it look nicer so that it would be good to wear to school or to the airport. For jewelry, I simply added a set of bangles which are on sale for $12.60 at Belk. To finish, I added a pair of white, lacey sandals which are from Payless (sold for $24.99).
This outfit is an absolutely adorable and more dressy outfit that can be worn out to eat, for a day out, or even to school or work if you want. On top of this, it is super easy, comfy, and inexpensive. It is simply a light blue and pink floral dress which is $29.99 at the moment at Target and a cute pair of white buckle up sandals ($29.99 at Belk). This is such a simple outfit, but it looks really nice still. If you wanted, you could always dress it up by adding a pair of earrings and some bracelets, but it is not necessary.
For the final outfit, I decided to create a very comfy, yet super cute and casual outfit. There is a chic, coral, cold shoulder shirt that I found at Charming Charlie for only $22. Along with the shirt, there is a pair of really cute, black and white elephant print shorts that are on sale for only $7 at Forever 21. To finish off the look, I added a simple pair of black and white flip flops from Hollister.
Thank you guys for reading and don’t forget to check back next Tuesday for my next article! Have a wonderful Friday 🙂
So much has happened this year whether it be something that has impacted a few people or an event that has changed the lives of millions. Some of these events were good and others bad, but there is no doubt that they were abundant.
One of the best parts of this year for me was you: the 12,157 unique visitors who have continued to visit my website throughout the year. Just yesterday this number was significantly lower when I had checked. I am grateful to have you all as an audience and to have so many of you following my Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube channel as well. In addition to having 12,157 unique visitors, I have had 54,275 views this year so far. For the 2017 year, my goal is to gain at least 10,000 new visitors nearly doubling my current viewer amount. In addition, I promise to post more frequently (at least twice a week) so that you all have more content to read. Anyway, thank you all and, without further adieu, let’s look back at 2016.
Starting early on in the year, I think that we can all agree that the presidential election for the United States has been very notable. Wealthy businessman Donald Trump unexpectedly became very popular early on in the election making himself the Republican nominee. Hillary Clinton, former secretary of state, also gained popularity securing her spot as the Democratic nominee. The election was a rocky road and lasted nearly the whole year. The most awe-striking part being towards the end when it was made clear that Hillary Clinton would win and that Trump had little, if any, chance to beat her. In the end, when November 8th came around, Donald Trump ended up winning the country by a significant number amazing everyone. What makes this year’s election so much more notable than those of years past is probably the outrage and the controversy over it. Even more so, the number of people who weren’t supporting either candidate and disliked both.
In addition to the election, there were events such as the night club shooting and the riots in Dallas over police killings. Speaking of which; police shootings and police being shot were frequent events this year as well. Many questions arose due to these shootings concerning equality and different peoples’ rights.
On more of a positive note, there was also the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro this year. Team USA did amazing ending the games with a grand total of 121 medals. Some of the best on our team being athletes such as Michael Phelps and Simone Biles. Also, there was the video that went viral of the US swim team singing together while carpooling to Rio.
In May of this year there was also the killing of Harambe. At the Cincinnati Zoo in May, Harambe the gorilla was shot after a child had fallen into his enclosure due to the carelessness of their parents. The controversy over Harambe’s death is mainly based on the fact that it was the child’s parents’ fault that they ended up in the enclosure, yet Harambe was punished with death for it. Although this was a large deal when it happened, Harambe became a well known meme to teens and other adolescents.
A few large trends this year was the new Pokémon GO app and the IPhone 7. Pokémon GO was released on July 6, 2016 and quickly became a big hit. According to expandedramblings.com, there has been a total of about 500 million Pokémon GO downloads thus far and that there are about 20 million users per day in the United States alone. Also this year the IPhone 7 was released in September. Being that Apple has such a large following the IPhone 7 was a fairly large hit. Of course, the Fitbit was another popular trend this year. People have constantly been wearing their Fitbits throughout the year and comparing steps with those around them.
Another group of instances that are particularly notable are the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones catching on fire. The phones’ batteries have become known for catching on fire and exploding this year. Along with this, there was also the issue with ‘killer clowns’ appearing around the United States causing people much worry. These clowns also hit the internet hard.
Finally, there were also he deaths of a few very popular celebrities this year. David Bowie, well known for his many hit songs including Starman, Space Oddity, and Under Pressure, died on January 10th this year from cancer at the age of 69. Similarly, the very popular Prince died on April 21 this year at only 57 years old. The former first lady Nancy Reagan also died on March 6 at the age of 94 from heart failure. And, of course, the boxing champion Muhammad Ali who died on June 3 at 74 years old.
2016 has been the year of victories and losses and the year of ups and downs. Through all of the issues we have learned to thrive and from all of the good things we have learned to love. Now all we have to do is hope for an even better year for 2017.

This is just my simple, yet delicious, lemon pie recipe! It is a spin on the traditional lemon pie recipe because it has a lemon pudding filling and uses whipped cream for the topping opposed to a merengue. If you make this recipe, feel free to share pictures with me on Instagram @sparklenews or on Twitter @Sparklenews_ for a chance to be featured on the website!
Pie Crust (Homemade or packaged)
3/4 cups granulated sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
2 1/2 cups milk
3 egg yolks
The zest of 1 lemon
1/2 cup lemonade
2 1/2 tbsp unsalted butter
1. Prepare the homemade or packaged pie crust according to the given instructions.
2. Next, take out a medium sized pot and add the sugar and cornstarch to it. Mix until combined.
3. Stir in the milk so that the mixture is smooth.
4. Turn the stove on at medium heat and place the pot over heat.
5. Add the egg yolks, a pinch of salt, and the zest to the pot.
6. Stir over medium heat. Mix more frequently the more thick the mixture becomes.
7. Once the mixture is a pudding consistency, remove from the heat.
8. While the pudding is still hot, add the lemonade and butter and mix together.
9. Pour the pudding into the pie crust and chill for 2 to 4 hours in the freezer.
10. Once the pie is chilled, add whipped cream and serve cold.
